A standard bicycle touring guide book includes route maps. These are supposed to be complete, but having followed many of them, they usually aren’t. Most of the routes that I follow already have maps, and those maps are much better than anything I could create. Each route in this guide specifies which maps it uses, but for more details about maps, see A note about maps.
Many people want advice about which touring bike to buy. The truth is that you need to test ride a few to figure out which one is the best fit for you. In Choosing a Touring Bike, I list a handful of standard touring bikes that you can test ride and provide a little bit of information about each.
